Stop Waiting Until After The Holidays To Reach Your Health Goals

Updated: Sep 21, 2022

The Holidays are the #1 time to self-sabotage your health goals. Which is then followed by the perfectly timed New Years Resolutions, to mop up all the damage we did during the holidays.

Except this mentality is extremely flawed and will always keep you stuck in the same patterns that are hurting your health.

So what's wrong with this mentality and how can you fix it?

1. Your diet is so restrictive that you don't feel like it's humanly possible to maintain over the holidays.

If you are on a diet that isn't possible to maintain every day for the rest of your life, then it's not the diet for you. In fact, you should scratch the notion of diets all together. I like to use the words "health journey" rather than "diet." Your health journey should be something that you can maintain during holidays, vacations, stressful times, and more! If not, then it's time to take a lifestyle approach to your wellness!

2. You self-sabotage by giving yourself the excuse that "everybody eats unhealthy and gains a few pounds during the holidays."

Self sabotage can arise from many things. In this case, you're setting yourself up for failure before even trying. Why? Perhaps you have a fear of failure, so why not give up before even trying, and justify it by comparing yourself to others based on assumptions...YIKES! This is a hard pill to swallow. And if you feel called out...then GOOD! Because noticing your self-sabotage trends will allow you to prepare and GROW from them.

3. You self-sabotage by telling yourself that you've been "good" and now you can be "bad."

It's time to stop labeling foods as "good" and "bad." Your body will be naturally pulled to what you name as "bad." It also gives you an added excuse to binge on unhealthy behaviors because, hey, "I've been good." Once you take a lifestyle approach and naturally choose the behaviors that are right for you, there are no "good" or "bad" foods/behaviors. Every decision you make isn't based off "good or bad" but on what your body is needing in this exact moment to align you with your healthiest self. And sometimes that means eating Grandma's pumpkin pie! But you only CHOOSE to eat that pie when you know it's right for you...not because of an uncontrolled craving, excuse, or escape...but because your innate intuition wisely guided you to your decision, and you are confident and at peace with it. AKA, when you finally release anxiety and pressure around "good" and "bad" foods.

4. You believe you will have a "fresh start" once the holidays are over and the timing is better...like on January 1st.

There's a reason 80 percent of New Year's resolutions fail in the first month. It's because you kept waiting until the timing was right. But, if you are always waiting until the timing is right, then you will never start! The perfect time to start your health journey is NOW!

Now you may be saying, "But I did start! I just couldn't stick to it!" Even if you did start, there was no behavior change that led to a lifestyle change. So as soon as the opportunity arose, you self-sabotaged without even realizing it. Then on and on this cycle goes, until you're staring down next year's holiday season with the same mentality.

So how can you make this time different?

By starting NOW and working towards behavior change! Imagine yourself in such alignment with your healthiest self, that even holidays don't phase you! You just keep on smashing through health goal after health goal.

And if you don't believe this is possible for you, you may have a fear of DREAMING which can stop your goals before they even start!

This is an invitation to start dreaming BIG about what your health can actually look like...for REAL!
